FIRST ANNUAL CHARLESTOWN OPEN MARKET A HUGE SUCCESS |
The Open Market was a grand success! There was something for everyone and there was incredible traffic!
Thanks to all who worked so hard on the event! Betsy Baker, Diane Grant, Ann Kelleher, and Issie Shait from New England Development were particularly helpful! It was a very successful day! There was lots of talk about putting on another Open Market next year. This event was organized and sponsored by the Charlestown Business Climate Committee.
We can't make this happen without you!
If you are interested in volunteering your time in the efforts of future Charlestown Open Markets, we'd love to hear from you. We need help with promotions, organization, recruitment and more...please contact us if you are interested! We need your talents!

CHARLESTOWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION HOLDS SUCCESSFUL MAY EVENT - LUNCH WITH PRESIDENT FIFIELD AT BUNKER HILL COMMUNITY COLLEGE |
It was a great luncheon at Bunker Hill Community College with President Mary Fifield speaking to the crowd about BHCC, it's successes and future projects.
BHCC catered and sponsored the luncheon which was attended by over 30 members. The event was held in the Culinary Arts Dining Room, which was a lovely location and was brightly decorated with flowers. The meal was delicious and included Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast, Italian Cold Cuts and Cheeses, Mixed Seasonal Greens with Grilled Asparagus, Marinated Mushroom and Marinated Artichoke Hearts and Heart of Palm; with a Balsamic Vinaigrette, Orzo Salad, Assorted Rolls and Breads, with Butter, Petite Pastries and Cookie Assortment, Fresh Coffees and Fancy Teas, Bottled Still and Sparkling Water and Assorted Bottled Sodas
Members were able to address the President on many issues and questions they had. She also went into some detail about how the CBA and BHCC could work together. One area addressed was an initiative with the Warren Prescott School to have students gain future credits. For more information on this program please contact Dr. Amara at the Warren Prescott School.
The College rents out the room for events, and catered events. It's availability varies, but if you are looking to hold and event in Charlestown, the room comfortably seats approximately 40 people and all the catering is done in house. For more information about renting out the room, please contact Kevin Wery Catering and Event Coordinator at Bunker Hill Community College.

NASE OFFERS MEMBERS SMALL BUSINESS/SELF EMPLOYED A COST EFFICIENT HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM |
After much research into benefits for the self-employed, the NASE (The National Association for the Self-Employed) can offer small business owners access to health and business benefits among many other benefits. The NASE was started in 1981 as an organization that offers support, benefits and consolidated buying power. Today, the NASE is over 200,000 members strong, and is the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan association of its kind. The NASE works hard to ensure that Congress consider issues important to the members, with a full time advocacy team located in Washington D.C.
Through the NASE membership, we are able to benefit in many ways like large corporations by banding together to have power in numbers. This has primarily affected the small business owner by offering access to tax savings programs and affordable health insurance among many other discount programs.
The NASE's No. 1 most requested benefit is access to health coverage. Securing affordable health coverage is a top priority for micro-business owners. This coverage is underwritten by The MEGA Life & Health Insurance Company* The health insurance plans can be enhanced with optional benefits and are designed for the self-employed. These plans also provide NASE Members with some valuable features. First, you have the freedom to see any doctor and go to any hospital, without network restrictions. There are many options to choose from including dental, vision, prescription and disability.
For information on how to access this benefit, contact our representative:

2007 DIRECTORY TO BE PUBLISHED THIS SUMMER |
This year the CBA is publishing it's own Business Directory. In previous years the directory was published in the Charlestown Neighborhood Guide. The goal of this year's directory is to create a "Visitors Directory" that can be used not only by members to do business with each other, but to be shared with residents and visitors. We need your help to make this a successful promotion tool for Charlestown, so please renew your dues today.
Please make sure that your information is up to date on the Web site, and if it's not let us know as soon as possible!
Your dues must be paid in full to be included in the Directory. The CBA has recently added the ability to pay your dues online to make this more convenient for members. To do so, please click here http://www.charlestownbusiness.com/join.html to update any of your listing information, and to pay online.
The Directory is being produced by the CBA Board, with Lysa Miller, Editor and Diane Grant, Designer.
